The first session of the day was a full one! The campers hit the turf at 8:45AM and took full advantage of the cooler morning temperatures. The Centennial Conference focused on dodging drills prior to the morning break. The low camper to coach ratio ensured that the players received constant instruction and immediate feedback on their skill demonstrations. After the morning break, the players took part in a one on one drill from different points on the field. They put what they learned about dodging into practice in an attempt to score. Following that, they worked on shooting and competed to see who had the fastest shot (with the assistance of a radar gun).
I found the ODAC Conference starting their day with shooting drills, followed by a competition for the fastest shot. After the morning break, they put their dodging and shooting practice into a game like situation with a two on one drill.
Despite the hot weather, we take every precaution to ensure that the players get a break from the sun, stay hydrated and continue to enjoy camp to the fullest. While the morning session is by far the longest (lasting from 8:45 through noon), the campers and coaches take a break from 10:00 to 10:30 to hydrate, eat a light snack and spend some time out of the sun and in the air conditioning. The wonderful bookstore staff makes the morning "canteen" possible by handing out the snacks and cold drinks.
